September 27- October 1

We had a great turn out for our "Moon Watch" last Thursday evening. The weather was perfect and the moon cooperated completely! Thanks to everyone who shared their telescopes with us.

This week we have a Life Skills assembly on Tuesday at 9 A.M. Our Life Skill for this coming month is Service. We'll start singing some new songs this week and we have a new volunteer piano player for October. Thanks to Mrs. Dailey for playing for us in September and thanks to Mrs. North for taking the month of October. Music is on Tuesday at 3:00. Stop by and sing with us sometime.

September 20 - 24

The third grades are planning a "Moon Watch" activity for Thursday night at 7:45 P.M. We will have a couple of telescopes set up on the third grade playground from 7:45- 8:30 P.M. Please try to stop by and take an up-close and personal look at the moon. We'll also have some binoculars available for all to use.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Cedar City Rotary Club will be coming by to present each third grader with their very own dictionary. The students will use the dictionaries in class this year and then bring them home in May.

We should finish up the keyboarding lessons this week. There were 20 homework assignments. I will be sending home duplicate copies of any assignments that didn't get turned in. Please finish them up as quickly as you can. Now we can start working on some computer projects that tie in with what we are studying.

September 13 - 17

Walk-a-thon is Thursday, September 16 from 12:45-1:15. You still have time to get some pledges.

DIBELS testing is Monday morning at 11:00. This year, we will be focusing on comprehension as well as fluency! So, you need to ask yourself, "What happened in the passage I just read?"

We now have a little more help in our large classroom. Mrs. Baker has been hired to work in our room for one hour a day. We welcome her. She was an aide at Enoch Elementary last year.

Mrs. Bayer will be attending a Creative Drama Workshop at SUU on Thursday, September 16. There will be a substitute teacher that day.

All reading and math volunteers are need this ( and every other) week. Thanks for all your help.

We are on keyboard lesson 12, GTB, today. There are only 20 lessons, so we are over half way there! Keep practicing those skills every night.

Our class is tied for 1st place in the Clean-Lunch-Room-Table Contest! Way to go, third graders!

All registration materials are due back by Wednesday. The classes with all the materials turned in will get a free treat at the Wednesday PTA snack sale. We only need three more things to qualify.

Thursday is Domino's Pizza Night. Last year our school made quite a bit of money with this fundraiser. Thanks for all you do to support our students. Have a great week.

August 30 - September 3

Thursday, September 2 is picture day. All students will have their photo taken. These are the pictures that go in the yearbook. If you want to purchase pictures, you need to bring your money with you on Thursday.

Our first Marvin and Jessie assembly is Tuesday at 2:15. The Walk-a-thon Kick-Off Assembly is right after that at 2:45.

August 19-20, 2010

Thanks to all the parents and students that attended the 2010 Open House. We had quite a few people sign up to volunteer in the classroom. Thank you so much for recognizing the need for parent involvement in the classroom.

Thursday and Friday will be spent getting to know the classroom routines. There will be homework on both Thursday and Friday. We will start keyboarding on Monday and there will also be keyboarding homework for the first five weeks. Spelling words will start on the 23rd. I will begin individual reading assessments early next week. I plan to have the groups formed and be ready for volunteers right after Labor Day. I will call and let you know when to begin helping in our classroom. Again, thank you for volunteering and I look forward to working with you in meeting the needs of your children. Mrs. Bayer

May 24-28

This is the last week of third grade. (BooHoo)

Please come to the Spring Arts' Night tonight at 7:00. Our performance is at 7:15. Our artwork is displayed in the hall by our classroom and also on our desks. Don't forget to stop by the computer lab and see our power point projects.

Our nature hike is Thursday at 12:30. We'll hike up the Fiddler's Hiking Trail and then stop at Rachel's house and Dax's house for a rest. If it is really hot, we might run through the sprinklers at Josh's house to cool off.

The fourth quarter awards assembly is Friday at 10:00 A.M. School is out on Friday at 2:30.

It has been a great year and I have enjoyed working with your children. Thanks so much for all the volunteer hours that you have put in this year. Thanks to Mrs. Zortman for burning all the DVD's of our classroom movies. Thanks to Mrs. Jensen for playing the piano for us all year long, and we appreciate that she missed part of Tanner's game to play during the Arts' Night. Mrs. Eberhard was so willing to jump in and do whatever needed to be done. There isn't room to thank everyone that helped make this such a wonderful year. My life has been greatly enriched by getting to know each student and their family. Have an excellent summer! Mrs. Bayer

Mr. Macklin will be here each day this week with the "Kid Power" program.

The Iron County Search and Rescue will present their "Hug-a-Tree" program on Monday, and have a rescue dog presentation on Tuesday.

Friday is the reading reward movie. Students must have turned in two reading calendars (buckets) in order to attend. We have 7 students that won't be going to this activity. Another classroom project will be available to those students that won't be attending the movie.

If you haven't turned in your $9.00 for your yearbook, please do so soon. The yearbook will be here in less than two weeks. Students, maybe you could do some chores and earn $9.00.

Next week we have Mr. LaMar Macklin as a guest for one hour each day. He does the "Kid Power" program. He will show students how to "Just Say NO" to drugs, alcohol, and bad choices.

We'll still have our regular reading groups all next week.

Solar Root Beer Recipe

1 teaspoon dry yeast
1/2 Cup warm water
2 Tablespoons root beer extract
2 Cups Sugar
Water

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Fill a one gallon glass jug 1/2 full of warm water. Pour root beer extract on top of sugar. Add 1/2 cup of warm water and dissolve. Pour in yeast and sugar solution. Put lid on loosely. Wrap jar in a dark colored towel and set in the sun for 6 hours.

MAY 3-7

We had the best Banana Split Party on Friday. Thanks so much to everyone that donated food and utensils. Everyone had it "their way". We had enough ice cream that everyone was able to have seconds! Yum! Now keep reading for the entire month of May (twenty minutes each night).

Does anyone have a one gallon glass jar? We need one for one day. We'll return it to you as soon as our science experiment is finished.

The vocabulary words are the same as last week. We didn't spend much time with these words last week because of the afternoon swimming. (excel, industrious, remote accompany, gesture, reveal, and conserve)

We have CRT testing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9- 10.

We will help celebrate Arbor Day on Friday from 10-11:30 at the Cedar City Arbor Day Celebration. Then we have our last Marvin and Jessie assembly on Friday afternoon.
